UCU Alumni Western Chapter: Strengthening Connection, Building Legacy, Advancing Impact
The UCU Alumni Eastern Chapter continues to make significant strides in strengthening alumni engagement, institutional governance, and professional development across the Eastern Region. Guided by the 2025/2026 Annual General Meeting theme, “Strengthening Connection, Building Legacy, Advancing Impact,” the Chapter remains committed to building a vibrant and accountable alumni network that supports both its members and Uganda Christian University Mbale College. One of the Chapter’s most notable achievements during the reporting period was the successful consolidation and verification of 15,460 alumni records, including 744 graduates from 2024 and 623 graduates from 2025. This milestone has greatly improved structured communication, alumni mobilization, and planning for Chapter programs, providing a strong foundation for mentorship, employment linkages, subscription tracking, and strategic decision-making. A key strategic priority for the Chapter is the establishment of the Human Resource and Mentorship Hub, an initiative designed to bridge alumni with employment opportunities while supporting students and fresh graduates in career transition by serving as a professional platform for career guidance, mentorship, internship placement, and direct linkage between alumni and employers across the region. During the AGM, members strongly endorsed this initiative as a major step toward increasing alumni relevance and impact. The Chapter is also working toward revitalizing economic empowerment platforms such as the Alumni SACCO, Investment Club, and NGO initiatives to strengthen financial inclusion, promote savings and investment, and create collaborative opportunities for alumni to support one another economically and professionally. In strengthening institutional partnerships, the Chapter remained actively involved in graduation preparations, student mentorship, and engagement with University Administration and Guild leadership, proudly recognizing and awarding first-class students during the commissioning service to reinforce the connection between students and the alumni community while promoting academic excellence and leadership. Despite this progress, the Chapter continues to face governance and financial accountability challenges, as the lack of a formal Chapter bank account and centralized management of graduation contributions have limited operational efficiency and weakened member confidence. Consequently, during the AGM, members resolved that 70% of graduation contribution funds should be remitted directly to the Chapter to support local operations and development projects, prioritizing the urgent establishment of an official Chapter bank account to strengthen financial transparency and accountability. Looking ahead, the Eastern Chapter’s strategic priorities for 2026 include institutional strengthening, full operationalization of the HR and Mentorship Hub, alumni database digitization, SACCO revitalization, stronger university partnerships, and rebuilding alumni confidence through regular engagement, transparency, and improved communication systems. With unity, structured leadership, and active alumni participation, the Eastern Chapter, under the guidance of Eastern Chapter Administrator Masaba Peter, is positioning itself as a stronger force for professional networking, mentorship, and institutional growth, with a leadership team that remains committed to implementing AGM resolutions and ensuring that every alumnus becomes an ambassador of the Chapter’s vision and mission.
